Marina di Ragusa is a seaside resort a few kilometers south of Ragusa of 2,500 inhabitants, in the summer it reaches about 60,000. Its ancient name was Mazzarelli in 1928, by the will of the fascist hierarch of the time took its current name. In the sixties, from a fishing village, it became a real tourist resort and the economy of this small center was mainly based on tourism and agriculture (greenhouse cultivation).
In the 16th century, the Cabrera, Viceroys of Spain, owners of the County of Modica, equipped with a watchtower and defense against pirate and Turkish raids. In Ragusa in 1870, the first asphalt mines were opened which, after extraction, was destined to asphalt the roads all over the world: Paris, Berlin, London, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, Beijing, etc., thus determining the economic development of the then Mazzarelli.
Over time, this splendid center has become a holiday and leisure point with many opportunities for relaxation and fun, welcoming holidaymakers from eastern Sicily, Italy and abroad who appreciate its beach with fine golden sand. Furthermore, thanks to the entrepreneurial spirit and the willingness to host the local population, it is full of commercial activities such as night clubs, restaurants and hotels, but all in a serene and orderly environment due to the quality of life enjoyed by most of its residents.
