About 15 kilometers from the city of Ragusa is the Donnafugata castle, a late 19th century noble residence that belonged to the Arezzo De Spuches family. The castle covers an area of 2500 square meters. It was built by the will of Baron Corrado Arezzo in the 1800s on the old structure of a thirteenth-century tower transforming the Castle into one of the most important centers of the social life zone of the Umbertine age.
The entrance consists of a large courtyard flanked by two rows of small houses. Crossing it, it is possible to see the Gothic facade edged with battlements below which there is an elegant gallery with pairs of columns enriched with capitals. In the part below the gallery you can admire eight pointed windows that lead to a terrace delimited by a balustrade with eight vases.
A stone staircase leads to the main floor, which is adorned with neoclassical statues. From here you enter the Hall of Coats of Arms where the symbols of the most important families of Sicily are painted, other frescoes are present in the Hall of Mirrors, in the Billiard Room and in the Music Room. In the bedroom, in which the White Princess of Navarre would have been locked, there is a beautiful pitch stone and white limestone floor. Valuable decorations are also present in the Ladies' Room and in the Fumoir.
